What's inside
Three laminated-friendly pages, one trail binder
Print on letter or A4, laminate, and leave the packet in the bag you grab when the call comes. Every page works offline, hands dirty, decisions un-fun.
Creek-crossing decision tree
Five Y/N prompts, four terminal outcomes (cross with group, cross adults only, find alternate crossing, turn around) — answer in order on the bank before anyone steps in.
Kid gear by age band
Infant (0-2), Toddler (2-5), Child (6-9), Pre-teen (10-12) — clothing, hydration, food, safety/whistle, navigation, sun/weather, communication. Pack it the night before, weigh the pack.
When-to-turn-around chart
Seven triggers (weather, time on trail, group condition, fatigue, water supply, navigation confidence, child state) graded Continue / Caution / Turn back. Re-check at every junction.
Creek crossing
Seven Y/N questions, four outcomes
Walk the prompts in order on the bank: water depth, infant present, current, clarity, site familiarity, pack ferrying, group composition. The tree terminates in one of four outcomes — cross with the group, adults only, find an alternate crossing, or turn around.
Cross with group
Everyone crosses together. Unclip from packs, hold hands across, face upstream, shuffle feet. Re-group on the far bank.
Adults only
Adults ferry packs and kids across. Carry infants in a chest carrier — never in a backpack. Toddlers go across in arms or a Pack-n-pull harness.
Find an alternate crossing
Walk the bank 100 m upstream and downstream for a log bridge, shallows, or a wider calm pool. Never build crossing aids with downed wood.
Turn around
Conditions outside the safe envelope. Note the GPS waypoint, retrace the route, log the call on the turn-back chart at the trailhead.
Kid gear by age band
Four age bands, six categories each
Infant, toddler, child, and pre-teen — clothing, hydration, food, safety/whistle, navigation, sun/weather, and communication. Pack it the night before, weigh the packs, re-weigh after a wet morning.
1. Infant
0 - 2 yrs
2. Toddler
2 - 5 yrs
3. Child
6 - 9 yrs
4. Pre-teen
10 - 12 yrs
Turn-back chart
Seven triggers graded Continue / Caution / Turn back
Weather, time on trail, group condition, fatigue, water supply, navigation confidence, child state. Re-check at every junction — the chart turns subjective worry into a logged protocol.

- #2Time on trail · re-check at every junction
- #3Group condition · re-check at every junction
- #4Fatigue · re-check at every junction
- #5Water supply · re-check at every junction

How to use it
Pack it. Recheck it. Trust the chart.
The first time you use this packet is at the kitchen table — pack the kid gear by age band the night before. On the trail, the creek-crossing decision tree lives in your vest pocket and the turn-back chart lives in the nav kit. Every junction is a re-check.
When in doubt, turn around.
Buy direct
The Buy Direct chip on each tool opens a Stripe-hosted checkout that is the only purchase path. It only works once the deploy's Stripe keys are wired and the operator runs the steps below.
- Finish Stripe onboarding on the Polsia dashboard Payments page (Connection + branding) — direct checkout stays gated until this completes.
- Set ORDER_TOKEN_SECRET on the deploy env (openssl rand -hex 32 → store via set_app_secret) so download links survive a restart.
- Redeploy: polsia.toml ships npx prisma db push at build, so the Order table lands automatically.
- Smoke-test one $1 charge end-to-end: open /tools/<slug>, click "Buy direct", submit a known email, complete Stripe checkout, land on /checkout/success, click the download button, confirm /api/orders/download streams the unlocked PDF.
- Watch the orders feed: prisma.order rows flip pending → paid; the receipt email fires from the post-payment helper.
Direct checkout is the only purchase path — Stripe-hosted with a secure download link emailed the moment payment clears.
